The Streamline Story

An “overnight” success—10 years in the making

Founding  Streamline Government Contracts was an “overnight” success—10 years in the making. After teaching and working with children for a few years, Karen started her new career as a Contracts Assistant for Vantage Human Resource Services, Inc., a small human resources and training company. Mary Ann Wilkinson, the company’s President and Owner, became Karen’s mentor.  Mary Ann encouraged Karen to continue her business education.  While working full-time, Karen earned her M.S. in Management/Procurement and Contract Management from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), while at the same time, also earning several promotions.  She eventually rose to become a Financial Controller due to her thorough understanding of contracts and the relationship between contracts and accounting specific to the Government Contract industry.

After completing her M.S., Karen earned her MBA and subsequently worked for other government contractors. She saw that no matter how brilliant the CEOs were in their industry,  the complexities of government regulatory requirements could overwhelm him/her, especially CEOs of small and medium contractors with limited resources. CEOs are often subject matter experts (SMEs) in their industry and focus on growing their companies and providing solutions; they need a trusted advisor that can negotiate agreements, acknowledge risk and provide options, ensure the company is fulfilling its contractual obligations, and help improve the bottom line.

Karen founded Streamline Government Contracts, LLC to fill this need for more than just one company at a time. Since 2012, Streamline has helped federal contractors in various parts of the U.S. reduce their risk, increase profits and improve their professional image with their customers, many who have been clients for several years.

Success Story

Improving a client’s bottom line through proper contract management.

Challenge

A small-IT contractor, under $5M in revenue at the time, needed help negotiating a Teaming Agreement (TA) with a Large, Top-5, Prime Federal Contractor and the subsequent subcontract.

Solution

Streamline helped negotiate several Terms and Conditions—many that were not generally agreed to, especially with this Prime.   After award, Streamline reviewed the subcontract, which had omitted virtually all the Terms and Conditions, previously agreed to in the TA.    During several meetings, we reminded the Prime that these Terms and Conditions needed to be included in the subcontract before our client would sign it.

Result

The Prime revised the Subcontract that included the most critical the Terms and Conditions in the Teaming Agreement including the labor rates, workshare, dispute clauses, etc.  Our client has grown significantly and remains a subcontractor to the Prime vendor today.
